IRWIN Receives Top Safety Award for 2nd Consecutive Year May 2011
For the second consecutive year, IRWIN Industries has received Tampa Electric Company's highest honor for safety performance. According to TECO, the award, known as the Energy Supply Infinity Safety award, "is intended to recognize commendable safety performance of contractors with exemplary safety programs." The recognition was the result of three separate projects which were successfully completed during 2010 at TECO's Big Bend Station. Between November 2009 and March 2010, IRWIN Project Manager Joe Dueitt managed a major overhaul of Unit #1 which included: replacement of the furnace floor, first and second radiant superheater pendants, high-temperature superheater outlet header, and terminal tubes and selected waterwall panels. Weeks later, IRWIN Project Manager David Byrd replaced the superheat platens, along with several waterwall sections, on Unit #4 of the plant. Byrd returned to the station in the fall to perform emergency repairs in the radiant superheat area on Unit #2. All work was completed on-schedule and on-budget with zero recordable incidents. Dueitt and Byrd, along with IRWIN EH&S Manager Matt DesRosier, accepted the safety award on behalf of IRWIN from TECO President Gordon Gillette and VP of Energy Supply Tom Hernandez at a ceremony in Florida this April.
