Early Oil Field

Irwin Headquarters in Long Beach
IRWIN Industries was founded in Long Beach, California in 1922 during the Signal Hill oil boom. From its beginning in the production fields, Irwin has grown in size and stature in the petrochemical industry serving both refineries and productions fields. In 1981, Westinghouse Electric Company purchased IRWIN, enabling the company to become a significant participant in power plant retrofit and maintenance services.

In 1987, IRWIN was acquired by Park Corporation – a privately held company whose portfolio includes a diverse range of manufacturing and service companies. Backed by Park Corporation's vast resources, IRWIN has evolved into one of the nation's leading construction and contract maintenance companies.

IRWIN established its Ventura fabrication group in 1996. Today, IRWIN's Ventura group provides fabrication, construction and maintenance services to petrochemical, manufacturing and other heavy industries throughout the Western region.

With the acquisition in 2001 of Unit Construction and Hobbs-Bannerman Engineering, IRWIN gained civil construction capabilities and engineering support, forming an organization capable of successfully completing turnkey construction projects for the industrial community. To accommodate the continued expansion, IRWIN purchased a 52,000 square-foot facility in Long Beach, California to house the company's administrative and tools & transportation functions and craft & safety training center.

IRWIN University was established in 2006 to provide ongoing training and development opportunities in a wide range of disciplines, including safety and compliance, craft and technical skills, professional development and supervision. The institution has grown substantially since its inception and now offers an enhanced curriculum that combines National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), and IRWIN-specific craft, business skills and environmental, health & safety programs. Select courses are also offered to outside customers and vendors.

In 2008, the newly formed IRWIN Holdings Company became the parent corporation to IRWIN Industries, Inc. and Hobbs Bannerman, Inc., which were restructured into distinctly separate companies to provide superior service to their respective markets. As part of the 2008 restructuring, two additional companies were formed as part of the IRWIN Holdings portfolio: Rig-One Equipment Leasing Company and Streamlined Support Systems (S3).

IRWIN’s strength since its inception has been its well-trained and dedicated work force. IRWIN's 1,000-plus employee workforce is committed to delivering the highest quality customer service possible. We invite you to experience the IRWIN difference.
